Career

Business today is highly complex, interconnected and increasingly global with vast amounts of goods, services and capital crossing borders daily. Our program will provide you with the broad perspective and understanding needed to develop a successful career in business here in Canada and anywhere around the world.

The international trade sector is absolutely central to the Canadian economy. According to Statistics Canada, total international trade (exports plus imports of goods and services to and from other countries) accounted for almost two-thirds of Canada’s gross domestic product at market prices in 2017. In addition to trade in goods and commodities, Canada is a major player in the services trade including areas such as energy, finance, financial services and technical services. This is a fast-growing sector that has tripled in value in the last 20 years and carries increasing demand for skills in all areas.

Our degree is cross-functional and will prepare you for a range of industries depending on your preferences and skills including foreign investment; external business development; logistics; customs; freight forwarding; trade consulting; international financial and risk management; and international marketing, sales, and research.

A day in the life of an international business professional could involve reaching all the way around the world, either in person or virtually. Your day-to-day work will be varied and exciting – everything from drafting a full-fledged business plan for expansion into a new international market, to planning and executing the logistics of getting a product across oceans.
